There are many indie movie makers in New Zealand but Taika Waititi always brings something special and unique to the screen and his scripts could be viewed as the finest examples of modern New Zealand comedy. If you have ever been to New Zealand then you will be completely aware of their extremely unique sense of humour.

The movie is written and directed by Taika Waititi who has generated a cult following in New Zealand and internationally, writing and directing classics like Flight of the Concords, Boy, Hunt for the Wilder People and What We Do In The Shadows. partialy thanks to whimsical little interludes of animation, but mainly because it ties blithe absurdity to a rock bed of emotional truth.This is a film that champions the geeks and freaks of this world, throwing two awkward losers together in a love story set in Wellington and Tatahi Bay, New Zealand. Most of the critics in their reviews were comparing this film with Napoleon Dynamite but to me this New Zealand creation had its own distinctive style mainly due to above mentioned animated segments and the emotional honesty. Eagle vs Shark, directed by Academy Award-nominee Taika Waititi (the short, Two Cars On Night), is a wry comedy that chronicles the quirky romance of two. After gatecrashing Jarrod's party and proving her skills on the game console, Lily goes down to Jarrod's home town with him so he can settle an old score with a past school bully.

One of the things I really liked in this movie were the segments done in stop motion - utilizing both props and actors. Love blossoms for Lily over double Meaty Boy burgers at mid-day when uber-computer nerd Jarrod comes in and leaves with free extra large fries. The film was shot entirely in New Zealand, in and around Wellington and Porirua, during 25 days in October and November 2005 with a crew of 35 workers. The film's script was a result of the Sundance Film Festival Director's and Screenwriter's Labs workshops in June 2005. With Jenny not at work one day, Jarrod gives Lily an invitation to his "dress as your favourite animal" party to pass along to her, but Jenny crumples it up and throws it away upon receiving it. Jarrod doesn't even notice her nd he has his eyes glued to Lily's workmate, Jenny. She got a job at a local fast food restaurant and has a crush on of the customers - Jarrod (Jemaine Clement), a geek who works in a video game store. It is the first feature-length film directed by Taika Waititi. Lily (Loren Horsley), a shy, wistful girl, is a songwriter when no one is listening. Eagle vs Shark is a 2007 dramatic-romantic-comedy starring Jemaine Clement and Loren Horsley. The story of two (or more) nerds was put together so well, that sometimes I wanted to become a nerd myself. Ward, Devendra Banhart and British group The Stone Roses. A funny New Zealand romantic comedy directed by Taika Waititi waited 6 years to be seen by me! What a shame I didn't have a chance to see it in a cinema.
